These authentic solid teardrop opals hold color that is indicative of the Rococo Era. The gold flowing lines, chain and sparkle from the Herkimer sitting underneath the Opal reflects the curling lines and pastels found in this art movement. This design was inspired by the drama of a girandole earring - common in the mid 1700s. Girandole is an earring design in which three dangling pear-shaped ornaments are suspended from a central bow motif. This is my modern take on that design layout.
The opals were purchased from a dealer who hand cuts all stones with a family business in Florida, found at the Duluth Bellpoint Gemshow.
There is a small scratch on one side of one stone as I was stone setting. The price has been discounted to account for this imperfection.
Please do not wear these earrings in any water or to sleep as opals are extremely soft and easily scratched.
